Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

No. 11 Duhawks Draw Even with Johnnies

DUBUQUE, Iowa (Duhawks.com) - Days after their momentous win over No. 2 Wheaton, the Loras Men's Soccer team returned to the Rock Bowl with hopes to add to their win total in 2015. A slow start combined with a strong side in Saint John's resulted in a scoreless draw Saturday night.

The opening 45 was very uncharacteristic for Loras who struggled to enforce their swarm on Saint John's (2-0-1) and force turnovers. As a result, the Duhawks only challenge Johnnie's goalkeeper Kevin Lebahn once, coming in the 17th minute on a shot by senior Bryan Irwin. Saint John's, on the other hand, took three shots in the opening half and put two on frame, forcing sophomore Jacob Peterson to be alert and active inside the 18.

Loras (3-0-1) came out in the second half with a completely different formation, leaving just two center backs in the match. While the adjustment did not result in a goal, Loras did awake from its' slumber, registering eight shots and putting five on frame. The Duhawks had their fair share of chances down the stretch, including two shots on goal and two corner kicks within the final five minutes of regulation.

In extra time, Saint John's recorded the lone shot on target, a header from Rocky Harmon that was saved by Peterson.

Despite the draw, Loras' defense earned their third straight clean sheet, extended their shutout streak to 325 minutes.
