Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

No. 6 Duhawks Overpower No. 5 Maroons

CHICAGO (Duhawks.com) - The Loras Men's Soccer team used three second half goals on Wednesday night on their way to a 4-nil win over No. 5 University of Chicago. Senior Richard Lenke added a goal and an assist on the night, recording his first points of the season.

Two contrasting styles were showcased on the pitch, which had proven to be successful for the respective sides early in the 2015 season. For Chicago (5-1-0), they entered on a five-match winning streak playing a well-organized form of soccer, featuring plenty of buildup and accurate passing. Loras (4-0-1) on the other hand, has found great success playing an extremely high pressure style of soccer which puts opponents under duress and forces mistakes.

In the opening minutes, Loras' style won out on a majority of the occasions, which created multiple scoring chances for the Duhawks. Senior Johnny Rummelhart blazed past his mark in the 20th minute and was nearing the penalty area when he was taken down by a slide tackle, earning a free kick for Loras. While Rummelhart would leave the game temporarily, senior Jorge Simon capitalized on the opportunity by netting his first goal of the year near post to give Loras the early one-goal lead.

The remainder of the first half saw the two sides battling to control the game according to their own style. Loras was the more effective of the two sides putting four of their nine shots on target, including the goal strike by Simon.

UChicago nearly found the equalizer in the 58th minute when Brenton Desai found himself in on goal, but a save by sophomore Jacob Peterson kept the clean sheet in tact.

The Duhawks finally broke through and added an important second goal in the 72nd minute when Richard Lenke found junior Austin Jacobi in front of goal. Lenke served a ball from right near the end line and found the head of Jacobi who drilled it into the back of the net.

Loras added a third goal minutes later after a corner kick that Richard Lenke put in following a scramble in front of goal.

With the game in hand, the Duhawks turned to their bench to take care o the match the rest of the way. Making the most of his time on the pitch, senior Nick Popa sent home his first career goal to put the nail in the coffin and send the Duhawks back to Iowa with a convincing 4-nil win.
