Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

No. 6 Men's Soccer Suffers First Loss of Season

GREENCASTLE, Ind. (Duhawks.com) – The sixth-ranked Loras College Men's Soccer team fell to Depauw on Saturday afternoon, 2-nil. The Duhawks came in riding a four-game winning streak and had only surrendered one goal in their first five games. Both streaks were snapped today as the Tigers scored once in each half to take the win.

DePauw came out in a 4-5-1 with a sweeper in an attempt to keep Loras' high-pressure system in check. It didn't take long for the Tigers to be rewarded as they capitalized on a counter-attack in the 13th minute to take the early 1-nil lead. Thanks to the early goal, DePauw were the ones who could sit back and tactfully defend knowing that Loras would have to come at them.

Despite putting two shots on frame in the opening 45, the Duhawks went to the halftime break trailing 1-nil.

The Duhawks ramped up their pressure and spent most of the second half in the Tigers end in search of an equalizing tally. With the Tigers defense holding tight, Loras had great difficulty creating quality chances, but still managed to put three shots on frame out of their five total.

With time dwindling away and the Duhawks feeling the pressure of a loss, DePauw found themselves on a 1v1 heading into the offensive third. Much like their first goal, the Tigers benefited from a cross to the back post which was headed in for the goal with four minutes to play.

Both teams finished with 11 shots, but the Tigers were the ones who capitalized on these chances while the Duhawks were the ones who wasted opportunity after opportunity.
