Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer Shutout by Wheaton

WHEATON, Illinois (Duhawks.com) – The Loras Women's Soccer team saw their five-game winning streak come to an end on Tuesday night, as they fell 2-nil to Wheaton College. A goal from the Thunder in the 21st minute change the complexion of the match and Loras was forced to chase a goal for the remaining 70 minutes of play.

The opening minutes saw Wheaton display their speed with their outside forwards, forcing Loras to expend a great deal of energy in an effort to keep pace. Loras' defense was weathering the offensive pressure from Wheaton fairly well thanks to senior Kat Hermanas' ability to read the attack and step in to break up the rush.

In the 21st minute, Wheaton delivered a service deep into Loras' territory and after a flick on, caught junior Maria Siebels in no-man's land, which led to an uncontested header from Wheaton's Kristin Rauh.

As the match carried on into the second half, the play of sophomore Sydney Wright became more and more crucial. With Wheaton's outside forwards attempting to push forward with pace at every opportunity possible, Wright's defensive play helped keep them in check. In addition, her ability to join the attack moving forward eventually led to a positional adjustment where Wright was slotted as a midfielder during the later part of the might.

Coming out of half the Duhawk had a plan in place to push the tempo and find an equalizer, resulting more sustained time in Wheaton's offensive third. The drive and determination from the seniors on the pitch became more noticeable as the game wore on.

Wheaton's defense kept seniors Danielle Vujovic and Katie Truesdale in check for most of the night, allowing for a combined two shots on target, both of which came from Vujovic.

Despite giving up two goals on the night, the play of Siebels in net kept the Thunder offense from running away with the game. Siebels finished with nine saves on the night.
