MT. VERNON, Iowa (Duhawks.com) - Looking to get back on track following a three-match skid the streak, the Loras Women's Volleyball team found success early on Saturday, sweeping Cornell 3-0. The glory would be short-lived, unfortunately, as the Duhawks fell to No. 20 Augsburg, 3-0.
The Duhawks came out flying against Cornell, utilizing a versatile and efficient offense to take a 7-2 lead. Loras kept control of the match, posting leads of 15-10 and 23-17 before eventually taking the first set 25-21. Junior
Therese Schultz showed off her poignant attack, leading the Duhawks with four kills in the first set along with a .600 attack percentage.
The second set proved to be more of the a battle and Loras found themselves tied 7-7 early on. Cornell responded well in the second set, forcing Loras to pick up their game in order to stay level. Schultz continued her offensive thrashing, provided a service ace to tie the set at 14-all. The Duhawks eventually took a commanding lead of the match with a set two win, 25-23.
Delaying a clean sweep for as long as they could, Cornell fought back-and-forth with Loras and found themselves with the lead at 12-10. The score remained tight throughout the match, but a service ace from freshman
Jenna Mazur at 21-all gave Loras a late lead and brought them within three points of a sweep.
The Rams refused to go quietly and worked their way back to a deadlock at 24 before Schultz recorded a kill followed by an assisted block to seal the victory in three sets.

Just as quickly as Loras earned their first win of the day, they turned back around and took the court against 20th-ranked Augsburg. Both sides were evenly matched for most of the opening set, with the Duhawks owning a 15-12 lead after a roll-shot kill from freshman
Jenna LaCorte. The Auggies dug deep and responded with a five-point run to take the 17-15 lead. Loras tried to respond and reach level ground, but every time Loras put a ball away, Augsburg responded with a multiple-point run of their own, resulting in the Auggies taking the first set 25-21.
The Duhawks saw their biggest defeat of their day when Augsburg jumped to an early lead in the second set. Despite timeouts called by Head Coach
Jenna Ness, Loras simply couldn't slow the Augsburg attack, eventually falling 25-15.
Hoping to take the game to five, the Duhawks looked to push through the Augusburg offense. Jendra use a smart shot to get Augsburg out-of-system resulting in a hitting error and to bring Loras within one at 7-6. But a run at 20-17 from Augsburg followed by a closing ace would seal the sweep and hand Loras the loss at 25-20.
