Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Vujovic's OT Winner Lifts Duhawks to OT Win

DUBUQUE, Iowa (Duhawks.com) – The Loras Women's Soccer team added another win to their form on Monday, as they won in double overtime over Augustana, 3-2. Senior Danielle Vujovic scored twice for Loras, including the game-winner in the 104th minute.

Augustana's Kelly Farell recorded the game's first goal in the 35th  minute giving the Vikings (2-1-0) the lead. Farrell found herself with space near the top of the 18 and didn't miss, blasting home her second goal of the year. Prior to Farrell's tally, Loras (2-1-0) had struck the crossbar twice in the 27th minute. The Vikings took the 1-nil lead into the half and held an advantage in shots and corner kicks.

Coming out of the break, Head Coach Dan Rothert made adjustments to his defense that allowed more flexibility and ability to move up the field quicker.

Loras was rewarded in the 52nd minute, when Vujovic bent her strike from 25 yards out up and over the reach of the Augustana goalkeeper.

After the Vujovic equalizer, the Duhawks and Vikings traded chances until the 72nd minute when sophomore Maura Walsh capitalized on a long ball played over the top by sophomore Gretchen Schutz, Walsh beat her mark to the ball and once she found herself inside the 18, tucked home the go-ahead goal.

With time starting to tick away, Loras took measures to shore up their defense, but were burned when a handball was called in the 83rd minute. Stepping to the line, Farrell buried her shot in the back of the net to equalize with less than seven minutes to play.

Both sides showed fatigue as the game transitioned into overtime, resulting in slower buildup and time in between runs. As a result, neither team was able to replicate the chances that they had earlier in the game.

In the 104th minute, senior Katie Truesdale took her mark down near the endline and forced a clearance, which gave Loras a corner kick. From there, sophomore Riley O'Neill drove her service near the top of the six where Vujovic was waiting and headed home the winner.
