CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (Duhawks.com) - The Loras wrestling team claimed their first dual win of the season on Saturday against Simpson, 38-6, at the Iowa Conference Duals, hosted by Coe College. In their other two duals, the Duhawks fell to No. 12 Luther, 32-10, and No. 14 Coe, 34-7.
LORAS HIGHLIGHTS
- Senior Malcom Watson (197#) and junior Evan Weaver (141#) both went undefeated winning a combined six matches.
- Watson defeated Coe's Andrew Holladay via sudden victory, 6-4, Simpson's Damon Piatt via fall and Derek Stork by major decision, 12-3.
- Weaver earned his first win against Coe's Trey Schueler by major decision, 13-5, Simpson's Jason Kiehne by Tech Fall, 19-4, and Luther's Brian Burchett via decision, 5-3.
- In Loras' win against Simpson, the Duhawks claimed eight of 10 bouts, dropping decisions at 165 and 184.
- Freshman Dayton Olson defeated Simpson's Chase Erickson by fall in just 37 seconds, earning Loras six points right out of the gates.
- Senior Colin Griffin won by fall over Simpson's Anthony Derrick.
- Freshmen Chris Malone and Javier Soto recorded wins in Loras' dual against Simpson, both by decision.
