ALL-TIME SERIES AGAINST COEThe Duhawks own a 32-19 overall record against Coe dating back to the 1977-78 season. In that first meeting, Loras was victorious by a 42-40 margin.
LAST MEETING AGAINST COEThe Duhawks last faced the Kohawks on Senior Day of the 2014-2015 season. Victory May fueled Loras to a 63-57 victory on 10-of-12 shooting, finishing with 21 points.
Kat Cabrera also displayed an impressive performance in the contest, recording 14 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals.
SCOUTING THE KOHAWKSCoe is riding a four-game winning streak with their most recent victory coming in a 77-39 defeat of Carleton College. In the first game of the streak, the Kohawks set the program record for 3-pointers, sinking 16 in the contest. Aleena Hobbs is leading Coe's offensive success. She is the leading scorer with 20.3 points per game and a 46.3 3-point percentage. Hobbs has been named to D3hoops.com National Team of the Week twice this season. Dominating the defensive end of the court is senior Allie Wirth. She averages 8.4 rebounds and 1.7 steals per game, leading the team in both categories.
ALL-TIME SERIES AGAINST BUENA VISTALoras holds a 30-27 record against Buena Vista in the 57 times they have competed. The Duhawks and Beavers first met in the 1987-88 season. In the two contests that year, the record was deadlocked at 1-1 with Loras collecting a 65-49 victory in the inaugural matchup.
LAST MEETING AGAINST BUENA VISTALoras' last tilt with the Beavers featured career-best performances from junior
Lori Obendorf and sophomore
Lauren Stanich. Behind the dominating efforts of these players, the Duhawks soared to a 69-54 defeat of Buena Vista. Obendorf recorded a then-career-high 20 points in addition to eight rebounds and two blocks. Stanich came off the bench to score a then-career-high nine points and dish out two assists. The Duhawks topped the Beavers in both meetings of the 2014-15 campaign.
SCOUTING THE BEAVERSThe Beavers own a 6-5 record upon the completion of their non-conference season. The team defeated Saint Benedict in their most recent game by a score of 74-64. Seniors Jasmyn Flynn-Graves and Lexi Fisher lead the Beaver's scoring effort with 13.5 points per game each. Fisher was an All-Iowa Conference selection last season and has improved from her previous 12.5 points per game last year. As a team, the Beavers average 72.2 points per game compared to the Duhawks' 67.6 points per game. Loras will need to display a strong defensive performance to keep Buena Vista from scoring high.
FINDING THEIR STRIDEWhen Loras went on the holiday break, they found themselves at 4-4. Since then, the Duhawks have reeled off their straight, starting with a 62-48 win over Webster at the Cruzin' Classic in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. They brought the heat back with them, outscoring their last three opponents by a combined 34 points. The Duhawks' season mirrors this scoring summary, as the team scores more points as the game progresses. In the first quarter this year, Loras has scored a total of 152 points, however, in the fourth quarter they have scored 215 points.
CLEANING UP THE GLASSMuch of the Duhawks non-conference success can be attributed to their sizeable advantage in rebounding thus far in the 2015-16 campaign. Heading into Iowa Conference play this week, the Duhawks lead the league in both rebounding margin (+13.2) and rebounding defense giving up just 32.3 boards per game. They also rank second in the IIAC in offensive rebounds (16.2) and third (30.0) in defensive rebounds.
PASSING THE TESTIn facing four teams ranked in the top 25 in the NCAA Division 3 coaches poll, the Duhawks have been tested during the non-conference slate. Losses in close games to #6 UW-Oshkosh and #8 Wheaton were still encouraging signs of progress for this year's side. However, the true validation that they belonged among the top teams occurred during their past two victories against #7 WashU-St. Louis and #23 University of Chicago. The Duhawks are now riding a three-game winning streak and bring a 7-4 record into Iowa Conference play versus Coe and Buena Vista this week.
DUHAWKS GETTING COMFORTABLEA year removed from their first major season in the purple and gold, three Duhawks are getting comfortable in their new roles as primary contributors. So far in the 2015-2016 season, three out of the seven leading scorers for the Duhawks have nearly doubled their minutes from last season.
Terese McMahon (11.7-21.8),
Megan Jones (11.6-22.9), and
Lauren Stanich (8.3-17.3) have all made substantial contributions putting up points for the Duhawks with McMahon tied with senior
