DUBUQUE, Iowa (Duhawks.com) - The No. 24 Loras men's soccer team broke out a new set of uniforms and an offensive outpouring in front of the Homecoming crowd on Saturday night, defeating Saint John's, 4-3. Freshman

HIGHLIGHTS
MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
First Half
- After an early corner kick by the Johnnies, Loras earned three consecutive corner kicks in a 90-second span, none of which resulted in a shot.
- As the opening half wore on, both sides settled into a groove and Saint John's opened the scoring in the 31st minute. From deep in the Duhawks' half, Rene Cabrera sent in a long throw that Dylan Lehrer found a head on and beat Jacob Peterson to the near post.
- Showing no signs of panic, Loras stuck to its substitution pattern, resulting in a late goal with many of the second and third line players on the pitch.
- Junior Eddie Gonzalez sent in a cross from the near-side, connecting with freshman Alex Herrera eluded his defender and sent his shot back across goal and inside the post to equalize in the 44th minute.
Second Half
- Less than two minutes into the second half, the Duhawks pushed in front after senior Kyler Olson flipped his shot over Johnnies goalkeeper Nicholas French.
- The lead was short-lived as Saint John's came right back down the field, led by Sam Newman. After receiving the pass from Jose Cabrera, Newman found a seam and blasted a shot from distance to equalize.
- The Johnnies took the lead for the second time in the 54th after a throw-in came on target and a misplay from the Duhawks resulted in an own goal.
- While it took 28 minutes before Loras was able to respond, the Purple & Gold refused to give in and eventually earned its payday thanks to sophomore Ryan Ross' second goal of the season. Similar to the first goal for Saint John's, senior Calvin Miller sent his long throw across goal where it fell to Ross to send into the back of the net.
- Minutes later, the Duhawks transitioned from their end of the pitch to the attacking third in a blink of an eye. Junior Ike Bruns opened the sequence with a long pass to senior Alex Bradley who, on the first touch, switched the field to junior Spencer Moore near the top of the box. Moore continued the play and switched the ball back across to the near side where freshman Liam O'Connell had joined the attack and blasted home the winner.
- The remaining eight minutes saw no additional scoring chances for the Johnnies as Loras dropped numbers back and played solid defense to preserve the victory.
