Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Duhawks Throttle Kohawks, 9-0

DUBUQUE, Iowa (Duhawks.com) - The Loras men's soccer team (10-4-0, 5-1-0) won their fifth consecutive match by overpowering Coe to a 9-0 win. Sophomore Ryan Ross scored the gam-winner in the sixth minute, sparking the offensive barrage. Freshman Mark Histed and sophomore Ian Lenke both recorded braces to pace the Duhawks to victory.

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
First Half
  • Senior Alex Bradley kickstarted the attack early when he ripped a screamer on target that was saved and smothered by Kohawk goalkeeper Alec Balta.
  • Ross put the Duhawks on the board when he picked up his own rebound inside the Coe 18 and hit a slow roller that banked off the far post and into the back of the net.
  • In the 19th minute, Bradley roped a free kick over the wall and on goal, forcing Balta to make a jumping save and push the shot over the bar.
  • Junior Eddie Gonzalez sent his free kick on target but was denied by the crossbar. Fortunately for Loras, the rebound fell to sophomore Ian Lenke who delivered on the goal.
  • Freshman Kody Rife intercepted a Coe pass on the far sideline and connected with former high school teammate Histed at midfield who bent in the one-timer to the top corner.
  • Minutes later, freshman Mark Broderick dribbled to the end line and at the last second, lifted a short cross past a pair of defenders to a wide open Chris Paulino for the goal.
  • After a hard foul on Broderick gave Loras a free kick with 11 seconds to play, Gonzalez's initial attempt was thwarted but the rebound came out to Histed at the top of the box and was sent back through the crowded penalty area for his second goal of the night.

Second Half
  • Senior Nick Nemmers recorded his fifth goal of the season by reaching a bouncing ball off a throw-in from junior Jimmy Ralph. On a bang-bang play, Nemmers timed his shot perfectly before being sent head-over-heels following the collision.
  • With the goalkeeper out of his net, Bradley takes a failed clearance from Coe and lofts his shot into the net to increase the Duhawk lead to 7–0.
  • Histed added to his offensive contributions in the 55th minute, playing a threaded-through ball to freshman Liam O'Connell as he ran into the box. After a first touch, O'Connell blasted his shot and tucked it in between the goalkeeper and the near post.
  • Senior Chizobam Nkemeh won a race to the loose ball between him and the goalkeeper and lofted his shot that bounced and hit the cross bar.
  • The Duhawks put a close to the scoring in the 64th minute when Lenke collected his second goal of the match off a corner kick that freshman Anthony Berardi was the first to get a head on. After Berardi's touch, Lenke found the loose ball and delivered the winner.

KEY STAT
Loras dictated the pace and maintained a high level of intensity throughout, resulting in a lopsided shot count of 45–5, which included 22 shots on target for the Duhawks.
