INDIANOLA, Iowa (Duhawks.com) - The Loras football team's bid for a victory was denied on Saturday by Simpson, falling 30-0. Defensively, seniors
Calvin Harridge and
Mitch Powers led the way for the Duhawks with nine tackles each. On the offensive side of the ball, redshirt sophomore
Bob Kelly threw for 192 yards, 106 of which went to senior John Powers, who recorded his third 100-yard receiving game of 2016.
MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
- The Loras defense made two stops to open the game before surrendering the first Storm touchdown with 1:38 remaining in the first quarter.
- Simpson took over at their own 22-yard line, leading 10-0 with 4:21 left in the first half, and moved the ball down the field, finding paydirt with eight seconds remaining to take a commanding 16-0 lead into the half.
- Each of Loras' five first-half offensive possessions, ended via punt, with the longest drive consuming 3:29 of clock.
- Neither side could muster any points in a defensive-embargoed third quarter that featured seven combined possessions between the two teams.
- Setting up shop in Duhawk territory at the 45 yard-line, the Storm utilized three quick plays to find the end zone, adding their third touchdown of the afternoon at the 10:46 mark in the fourth quarter, stretching their lead to 23-0.
- Loras' longest drive of the afternoon started following the Simpson touchdown. Kelly marched the troops down the field, using 13 plays to go 47 yards. Facing a 4th-and-10 from the Storm 34-yard line, Kelly missed on his pass attempt to Jon Powers, halting the drive in its tracks.
- Following a muffed Loras punt inside the 10-yard line, Simpson added its final score of the day on a short passing touchdown.

Jeremy Peters | The senior from Clinton, Iowa kept the Duhawks in the game by flipping the field position several times throughout the afternoon. Peters punted ten times for a total of 393 yards, an average of 39.3 yards per punt.
