DUBUQUE, Iowa (Duhawks.com) - The Loras women's volleyball team dropped a four-set decision (25-23, 28-26, 18-25, 25-21) against Buena Vista inside of the Athletic and Wellness Center on Wednesday night. Loras was led by freshman
Michelle Budden, who posted an impressive stat-line of 16 kills, one error, while hitting .385.
MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
SET ONE
- Freshman Michelle Budden recorded her fourth kill of the frame, staking Loras out to a 20-17 advantage in the latter stages of the first set.
- Trailing 23-21, Buena Vista found its rhythm at the right time, scoring four of the final five points
- to take set one, 25-21.
SET TWO
- Both teams traded points in the most back-and-forth frame of the evening, but the Beavers continued to utilize their late-set prowess, using a two-point run with the teams deadlocked at 26-all to come out victorious, 28-26.
SET THREE
- Tied at 15-all, Loras gained control of the third set with a 7-2 run, prompting a Buena Vista timeout with a comfortable 22-17 lead.
- After the break in action, the Duhawks finished off the Beavers, taking set three, 25-18.
SET FOUR
- Two consecutive kills from BVU's Maddie Bardole with the set tied at 18 opened up a 20-18 lead for Buena Vista.
- Loras couldn't overcome this margin, losing the set, 25-21, and subsequently the match, 3-1.
