Justin VanWambeke's game-high 22 points, the Duhawks saw points from nine players, including a 14-point effort from freshman
Matt Dacy-Seijo.
MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
First Half
- Sophomore Ryan DiCanio gave Loras the lead at 17:20 with a long jumper from downtown on an assist from VanWambeke.Â
- The Duhawks converted on a steal from sophomore Demond George as VanWambeke drew a foul and hit both shots to put Loras ahead 9-7.Â
- In his first minutes of the season, sophomore transfer Josh Ruggles nailed a second-chance shot from behind-the-arc, giving Loras the one-point lead at 25-24. The triple kickstarted a 10-0 run for the Duhawks, which included another 3-point basket from Ruggles along with two points each from DiCanio and VanWambeke.
- With eight seconds remaining in the half, George hit a deep 3-pointer that bounced straight up off the rim before falling back through the net, giving Loras a seven-point lead at halftime, 39-32.
Second Half
- Carroll converted three straight possessions into 3-point plays, good for a two-point lead at 55-53 with 11:56 to play.Â
- Mathis put Loras up 71-68 with 6:34 remaining with a 3-point basket off an assist from Dacy-Seijo.
- VanWambeke put an exclamation point on a seven-point run for the Duhawks after an offensive put-back dunk with 5:23 on the clock. On the day, Loras had three runs of six or more points.
- Trailing by 10 with 3:49 to play, Carroll mounted a 6-0 run with four points from Kyle Keranen. Overall, the senior was held to nine points after entering with an average of 17.3 per game.
- Loras stretched its lead back to eight after a layup from DiCanio and a pair of free-throws from Dacy-Seijo.Â
- Thursday's game saw 14 lead changes and 10 ties, with the Duhawks playing with the lead for 76.4 of the night.
