Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Fourth Quarter Run Not Enough for Duhawks

DUBUQUE, Iowa (Duhawks.com) - The Loras women's basketball team fell on Wednesday to Buena Vista in an Iowa Conference matchup, 69-63. Senior Kat Cabrera led the Duhawks with a season-high 16 points, shooting 7-of-15 from the floor, while adding four assists.

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
First Quarter
  • Senior Erin Weaver converted her own offensive rebound for a layup, giving Loras its first lead of the game at 6-4.
  • Buena Vista opened the throttle and ran away beginning at the 5:54 mark, resulting in a 12-0 run.
  • The Duhawks trimmed the 13-point deficit to nine before the quarter was over thanks to a pair of free-throws from junior Miranda Chapman and a jumper from Cabrera.

Second Quarter
  • Junior Lauren Stanich opened the scoring for Loras in the second quarter with a behind-the-arc shot. Stanich's triple did little to slow the Beavers' momentum as Buena Vista rallied for an 8-0 run to take a 29-15 lead with 8:17 to play.
  • The Beavers continued to stifle Loras offensively and in turn opened their largest lead of the night at 41-23 at the 2:44 mark.

Third Quarter
  • Out of the break, junior Addie Oberman knocked a pair of 3-pointers, pulling the Duhawks within 10 at 43-33.
  • Cabrera joined Oberman and knocked down a triple of her own with 7:24 to play in the quarter.
  • Loras pulled within seven, the narrowest margin since the four-minute mark in the first quarter, after a jumper from Weaver.
  • Buena Vista closed the frame on a 5-0 run, including a jumper by Liz Riessen at the buzzer, and took a 59-47 lead into the fourth quarter.

Fourth Quarter
  • Cabrera pulled the Duhawks within eleven after a made three-pointer, capitalizing on a taken charge from Weaver.
  • A 9-0 run from Loras beginning at the 3:42 mark cut the Beavers' lead to two with 51 second after Obendorf powered her way into the lane for a layup and two points.
  • Trailing by four, the Duhawks missed on three shots in one possession, turning the ball back over to Buena Vista with 11 seconds remaining.
