MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
First Half
- Loras raced out of the starting block to a 12-3 lead, highlighted by 3-pointers from sophomore Jake Toman, senior Christian Mathis and sophomore Ryan DiCanio.
- Buena Vista fought back and tied the ballgame at 17-all after a 14-5 run at the 9:50 mark of the first half.
- The Duhawks responded with an extended run of their own, opening a double-digit lead over the next five minutes.
- Loras was 6-of-10 from distance, with five players registering triples and Mathis tallying two of his own.
- The Duhawks took what started as a six-point advantage and extended it to 10 after a pair of free-throws from sophomore Demond George with 1:09 left on the clock.
Second Half
- The Beavers' strong shooting continued over into the second half and cut the nine-point deficit to one at 51-50, but Loras, once again, responded with a 5-0 run after a layup from senior Danny Quinn and a 3-pointer from George.
- With 4:35 to play, Buena Vista took the lead after a pair of free-throws from Thomas Wisecup.
- Back-and-forth action continued the rest of the way, with each side trading blows to the final buzzer.
- After an offensive foul from Wisecup, Loras was unable to capitalize in short-time on the ensuing inbounds play, but a last-second desperation 3-point attempt from the Beavers came up short, sending the game to overtime tied at 75.
Overtime
- Despite being level at the end of regulation, Buena Vista grabbed the momentum early in overtime and never looked back, opening a six-point lead in the first two minutes.
- A pair of free-throws from VanWambeke with 1:38 play brought the Duhawks to within two, but the Beavers held tight to the lead.
- Dacy-Seijo hit the first of the back-to-back 3-pointers with 33 seconds left and followed up with his second with 11 seconds remaining, cutting the Buena Vista lead to one.
- The Beavers made their free-throws down the stretch to maintain their advantage despite Loras' attempt to find a lead, holding on for the win, 92-90.
