WAVERLY, Iowa (Duhawks.com) - Sophomore Michael Triplett posted the lone victory for the Loras wrestling team on Friday night as the Duhawks fell to top-ranked Wartburg 45-6.

LORAS HIGHLIGHTS
  • Trailing 6-2 entering the second period, Triplett turned a reversal and maintained top position, eventually turning Wartburg's Dusten Reed to his back to secure the fall at the 4:36 mark.
  • At 157#, Wartburg's Drew Waggenhoffer raced out to a 4-1 lead in the first period with two takedowns of sophomore Jimmy Davis. After Waggenhoffer chose down to start the second, a pair of reversals put Davis back in control. Davis managed to work Waggenhoffer into a cradle, but out of nowhere, Waggenhoffer benefited from an ill-timed move by Davis, resulting in the defensive pin.
  • Freshman Javier Soto stepped to the line at 184# for Loras and found himself down early to Wartburg's Brit Bastow, 6-0. No matter, Soto meticulously worked his way back into the match, starting with a takedown in the second period. Then in the third period, Bastow chose the top position, but could not keep Soto down, who scored an escape, followed by a takedown to cut Bastow's lead to 7-5. With time winding down, Soto was unable to expose Bastow's chest and score back points, falling 8-5.

UP NEXT
Loras will use the next two weeks to prepare for the NCAA Central Regional at the Five Flags Center on Sunday, Feb. 28. 2016 marks the fourth consecutive year that Loras has been the host for the regional tournament.
