Duhawks Strike for 20 Against Hilbert

BUFFALO, N.Y. (Duhawks.com) - The Loras women's lacrosse team opened its spring trip in a big way on Tuesday, striking for 20 goals against Hilbert to win 20-14. Senior Kaitlyn Kutsch recorded 10 goals and dominated the center circle, finishing with 18 draw controls.

LORAS HIGHLIGHTS
  • Coming off a tough setback to Concordia Wisconsin last Saturday, the Duhawks were looking for a fresh start on their spring trip.
  • Kutsch opened the scoring 60 seconds in with her first goal of the day.
  • Hilbert found its offensive rhythm early, opening a 6-4 lead with 12:18 to play. Loras responded with a four-goal stretch, highlighted by three straight goals from Kutsch.
  • Two late goals from Hilbert tied the game with 21 seconds left in the half, sending the teams to the break level at 8.
  • Key halftime adjustments by head coach Emily Goetz resulted in a offensive outburst, which saw the Duhawks take a 12-10 lead with 19:41 to play.
  • After the Hawks tied the game with a pair of goals from Nikki Schneider, Loras rattled off eight of the next 10 goals to create an unsurmountable gap.
  • The Duhawks reset the program record for goals scored in a game on Tuesday.
  • Kutsch ran her career goal total to 150. Entering Tuesday's game, Kutsch ranked 15th in Division III in free position goals per game with 1.33. Her 18 draw controls on Tuesday surpassed her season total in three games (17).
  • Joining Kutsch in the offensive onslaught was sophomore Sarah Hanson who tallied six goals and one assist.
  • Defensively, Loras was anchored by sophomore Nia Stompanato and freshman Martha Venchus, who combined for nine ground balls and four turnovers.
  • Junior Hannah Nelson was strong in the midfield, scoring one goal while adding two assists and collecting five ground balls and four draw controls.
  • As a team, the Duhawks converted on 8-of-11 clear attempts and targeted 30 of their 37 shots on target.
  • Sophomore Ashley McGee made 12 saves, a season-high.
