WAVERLY, Iowa (Duhawks.com) - A series of Wartburg scoring runs proved to be too much for the Loras women's lacrosse team to overcome on Saturday. Junior
Anna Schwalbe executed on her only shot of the afternoon into her seventh goal of the season. Schwalbe later added an assist on a dynamic play to set up freshman
Molly Johnson for her fifth goal of 2016.
LORAS HIGHLIGHTSÂ
- The first three minutes proved to be a grid-locked effort with both teams struggling to find control over the attack.
- The Knights were the first to put a dent in the score board at the 26:58 mark. The first goal was enough momentum to allow Wartburg to net seven unanswered goals and the claim an early lead.
- Looking to slow down the offensive efforts from the Knights, senior Kaitlyn Kutsch put the Duhawks on the scoreboard with 12:06 remaining.
- After back-to-back goals from Wartburg, Kutsch fired one away again to make it 9-2 with 7:23 left in the first half.
- Wartburg saw another goal for the home team, but a pair of Duhawks refused to be silenced. Freshman Molly Johnson converted a clean pass from junior Anna Schwalbe to make it 10-3.
- Kutsch took charge and produced some momentum in the form of a goal in the closing minute of the half to bring Loras within six at 10–4.
- Wartburg would get the last word of the half with another goal to send the Knights into the break with an 11-4 lead.
- The second half took a similar start as the first when the Knights used a three-goal streak to jump out to a 10-goal advantage.
- Kutsch netted her fourth goal of the game and 52nd of the season on the free-position with 21:38 remaining in the half.
