Women’s Lacrosse Handed Defeat on Senior Day

DUBUQUE, Iowa (Duhawks.com) - The 2016 Loras women's lacrosse season came to a close on Saturday on a cold and rainy Bierie Field to Augsburg, 17–6. Senior Kaitlyn Kutsch closed her collegiate career by scoring four of the Duhawks' six goals on the day.

LORAS HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Auggies struck within the opening minute of play to take the 1–0 lead.
  • Augsburg offense was held in check for a five-minute stretch by Loras' defense, keeping the deficit for the Duhawks at one.
  • Augsburg commanded the scoreboard for the next eight minutes, going on a six-goal run to take a 7-0 lead
  • With 16:14 left in the half, senior Kaitlyn Kutsch saw an opportunity to make a dent in the deficit, but failed to convert on the free position opportunity.
  • Another Auggie goal extended the lead to 8-0 after a free position opportunity was executed. 
  • With 7:30 left in the half, a pair of Duhawk sophomores found twine after AnnaRose Einarsen located Sarah Hanson in the scoring area to cut the lead to 8-1.
  • Augsburg responded to Loras' tally with a four-goal run of their own to end the first half with a 12–1 lead.
  • Kutsch took the opening draw control of the second half and scored on the ensuing possession to cut the lead to 12–2.
  • A pair of goals from Kutsch earned the senior a hat-trick with 16:56 to play in the second half.
  • The Auggies scored the next two goals, spread five minutes apart, to answer Kutsch's tallies.
  • With the man-advantage, Kutsch rattled off her fourth goal of the day and 63rd of the season to bring the score to 16–5.
  • Augsburg scored for the final time with 4:43 left before Kutsch recorded goal number 195 for her career to cap the scoring for the Duhawks.
