Women’s Volleyball Stumbles at Home Against Spartans

DUBUQUE, Iowa (Duhawks.com) - The Loras women's volleyball team fell to the University of Dubuque Spartans at home on Tuesday night, (25–23, 25–23, 25–22). The Duhawk offense was led by sophomore Claire Ritchie, who tallied a double-double with 12 kills and 13 assists in the defeat. Junior Haley Bergan racked up 27 digs, an average of nine per set, to lead Loras in the match.

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED 
SET ONE 
  • The Duhawks trailed 15–14 following a kill from senior Danni Kennedy, but the Spartans used a four-point run to open a 19–14 advantage.
  • A kill from sophomore Claire Ritchie brought Loras within one at 24–23, forcing a timeout from Dubuque.
  • After the break in action, a long rally ended in a kill by Dubuque's Karrah Davis, giving the Spartans the first set by a 25–23 score.

SET TWO 
  • Two consecutive attack errors from Dubuque staked the Duhawks to an early lead, 9–7.
  • The Spartans responded in an affirmative way, embarking on a 9–3 run, which forced a timeout from Loras head coach Jenna Ness.
  • Loras battled back evening the score at 23-all before a Duhawk attacking error and a kill from Davis brought the second set to a close, 25–23.

SET THREE
  • In the most back-and-forth set of the night, the Duhawks took a 19–18 lead following a Ritchie kill.
  • With the score knotted at 20–all, Dubuque scored five of the last seven points to take the set, 25–22 and the match, 3–0.
