Men's Volleyball Swept by Griffins

ST. LOUIS (Duhawks.com) - In the finale of Loras' three-game road trip, the men's volleyball team fell to Fontbonne is straight sets on Saturday afternoon, (25-23, 25-22, 25-16). Junior Dylan Ross led the Duhawks with 18 kills accompanied by a .308 attack percentage.

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
Set 1
  • A kill from junior Kyle Zacok staked Loras to a three-point advantage midway through the first frame, leading 15-12.
  • With the Duhawks up 21-19, a timeout from Fontbonne shifted the momentum in set one, with the Griffins scoring six of the final eight points to close out the set, 25-23.

Set 2
  • Loras led 15-14 in set two following a kill from Ross, but Fontbonne took control at this juncture, scoring the next four points to force a timeout from head coach Jeremy Thornburg.
  • After the break in action, the Duhawks and Griffins continued to trade points to the set's finale, but this advantage proved enough for Fontbonne to take set two, 25-22.

Set 3
  • A hot start from the Griffins resulted in an early 8-0 lead in the deciding frame.
  • Loras did its best to chip away at the deficit, but struggled to find its offensive rhythm, eventually conceding the third set, 25-16, and the match, 3-0.

NOTABLES
The Duhawks fall to 3-2 and 1-1 in the MCVL after their opening weekend of conference play, which puts them in third place behind No. 8 Carthage and Fontbonne in the Western Division.
