Football Edged by Knights

WAVERLY, Iowa (Duhawks.com) - Weathering the cold and rainy conditions at Walston-Hoover Stadium, the Loras football team dropped to 3-4 this season after a 42-11 loss on Saturday. Senior Mason Quigley tallied nine points on the day off three field goals with a long of 32 yards.

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
-Before the first quarter was half over, the Knights had staked themselves to a 14-0 lead after a pair of rushing touchdowns
-Senior Mikey Castoro's 37-yard kickoff return sparked the Duhawks and completions from senior Bob Kelly of 32 yards and 11 yards led Loras down to Wartburg's seven-yard line before settling for a field goal
-On 2nd-and-10 from the Duhawks' 41, Kelly connected with senior Mike Kuhn for a 50-yard completion to once again drive deep into Wartburg territory, but the offense stalled and Quigley converted his second field goal of the half
-Castoro took the kickoff to start the second half 23 yards and helped ignite a 12-play 60-yard drive for Loras … On 4th-and-Goal from the one, senior Ike Cloward was stopped for a loss and the Knights took over on downs
-Five plays later, the Duhawks forced a fumble and regained in Wartburg territory, eventually settling for Quigley's third field goal of the game, this time from 32 yards
-The Knights' next drive went nowhere and on the punt attempt, the snap sailed out the back of the end zone for a safety, cutting the deficit for Loras to 42-11

NOTABLES
-Quigley broke the school record for points in a season by a kicker on Saturday and now stands at 61 … The record was previously held by Joe Oleson who scored 59 points in 1996
-Additionally, Quigley moved to within two of tying the Loras season record for field goals in a season … Chris Gardner holds the record of 13, which he set in the 1988 season
-Senior Walter Ollie moved closer to three program records in the kick return department … Ollie needs 10 kick returns to set the record for most in a season, breaking Danny Willis' record from 2013
-After Saturday, Ollie now has 594 kick return yards this season and needs 55 to become the season record-holder, breaking Alex McGrew's mark of 648 from the 2007 season
-With 242 yards, an average of 80.67 per game, Ollie will surpass Gavin Kaiser's program record for kick return yards in a career, which is currently set at 1,254

FRIEDMAN GROUP PLAYER OF THE GAME - MASON QUIGLEY
With the offense unable to put points on the board, Quigley connected for three field goals to bring his season total to 11 and career total to 25.
