Offensive Onslaught Powers No. 18 Duhawks to Second Round

DUBUQUE, Iowa (Duhawks.com) - The 18th-ranked Loras women's soccer team opened its NCAA Tournament run in boisterous fashion, defeating Webster 5-0. Seniors Maura Walsh and Lauren Bolnius each recorded three points in the win as the Duhawks advanced to the Second Round on Saturday.

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
-The Duhawks wasted no time and struck for the first tally in the game's first minute … Senior Maura Walsh found junior Elizabeth Mills streaking down the side as she caught the ball in stride and fired it past the keeper for her 13th goal of the season
-All it took was six more minutes for Loras to double its lead as senior Lauren Bolnius cleaned up a rebound in front of goal after senior Gretchen Schutz ripped a screamer on target
-Minutes later, Bolnius delivered a ground cross to the center of the pitch and senior Molly Stanfa took her shot in stride and sent home her fourth of the season to make it 3-0
-After a penalty was called in the box in the 12th minute, senior defender Sydney Wright lined up the penalty kick and drove it home to put the Duhawks up by four
-The Duhawk defense dominated the Gorloks all first half, limiting them to three shots total, including two on target
-In the 53rd minute, Loras picked up right where they left off in the opening half as senior  Maura Walsh slotted the insurance tally past the Webster keeper for her 10th goal of the season, with the assist coming from Gretchen Schutz

NOTABLES
-After their 5-0 victory, the Duhawks registered their seventh clean sheet of the season and their first since Oct. 8
-Junior Elizabeth Mills registered a goal in her third consecutive match and has four goals in her last three appearances … The match-winner was the Brimfield, Ill. native's sixth of the season … Mills ushed her team leading goal total to 13
-Tallying a goal and an assist, senior Lauren Bolnius pushed her point streak to nine consecutive matches, putting her at 25 total points on the season
-Loras advances to the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament for the second consecutive season and 11th time in program history
-The Duhawks are 8-3-0 all-time in the Rock Bowl when playing in the NCAA Tournament

FRIEDMAN GROUP PLAYER OF THE GAME - LAUREN BOLNIUS
The Roselle, Ill. native netted her eighth goal of the season in the eighth minute and now has 18 points in her last 10 matches.

UP NEXT
After their first round victory, Loras faces No. 17 Wheaton on Saturday night in the Rock Bowl. In the regular season meeting during the opening weekend, the Duhawks prevailed 2-1 over the Thunder at the Bob Baptista Invitational. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
