Duhawks Rewrite Record Book in 165-89 Rout

DUBUQUE, Iowa (Duhawks.com) - The Loras men's basketball team scored repeatedly on Friday night en route to a 165-89 win over Macalester. As a team, the Duhawks broke five program records and were led by freshman Rowan McGowen with a game-high 26 points while junior Ryan DiCanio added 24 points and junior Josh Ruggles contributed 20 points.

SERIES NOTABLES
- Friday marked the first meeting in 83 seasons between Loras and the Scots, dating back to 1934-35 … The Duhawks now own the series lead, 2-0

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
- Loras opened the game with a 33-6 run which included 16 unanswered points from the Duhawks … In the 16-0 run alone, Loras saw points scored from six different Duhawks in a matter of 2:38 while forcing four Macalester turnovers
- DiCanio scored back-to-back-to-back buckets in a span of 1:20 to increase Loras' lead to 34 with 11:26 on the clock
- With 10:55 remaining in the first half, Ruggles scored 10 points in less than two minutes as the Duhawks went on another dominating run, this time scoring 14 points while holding the Scots scoreless
- Junior Demond George and DiCanio teamed up for 10 points to create another 14-0 run in Loras' favor to take a 74-18 lead
- A 3-pointer from DiCanio at 16:40 in the second half sparked a 25-7 run for the Duhawks in which nine different Loras players recorded at least one point
- A free-throw from junior Jake Toman with 11:24 remaining in the second half created Loras' largest lead of the night at 80, 139-50

- The Duhawks recorded an assist on each of their first 10 baskets
- Loras saw scoring contributions from 17 of 18 players on the night
- In Friday's victory, the Duhawks set season records in the following categories: points (165), field goals made (58), field goal attempts (91), free throws made (28), free throw attempts (34), rebounds (62), assists (48), field goal percentage (63.7) and 3-point field goal percentage (52.5) and defensive rebounds (48)
- Loras' 165 points are the most scored by any NCAA Men's Basketball team this season

INDIVIDUAL NOTABLES
- Freshman Troy Slaby made his Duhawk debut on Friday
- Sophomore Ben Burkholder recorded his first collegiate points
- Seven more Duhawks scored career-high in points including freshmen Rowan McGowen, Cole Navigato (17), David Wedewer (10), Cameron Harris (6), Dimitric Young (4), Mitch Burger (4) and sophomore JT Ford (6)

SCHOOL RECORDS
- With 165 points, the Duhawks broke the previous school record for points scored in a single game, previously set at 123 in the 1978-79 season in a win over Luther
- In Friday's win, the Duhawks defeated Macalester by 76 points, the program's largest margin of victory in school history
- Loras' 58 field goals sets a new school record which was previously set in the 1978-79 season in the Duhawks win over Luther
- With 21 3-pointers in Friday's victory, Loras broke the school record for most 3-pointers scored in a game … The former record was set in the 2015-16 season with 20 3-pointers in a 104-67 win over Eureka
- Loras broke its first record of the night on Friday with 32 assists in the first half … Prior to Friday, the program record was 31 assists in a game … The Duhawks finished with 48 assists 

FRIEDMAN GROUP PLAYER OF THE GAME - ROWAN MCGOWEN
- The Wheaton, Ill. native totaled 26 points in the Duhawks' victory on Friday evening while adding six rebounds and two assists … McGowen currently ranks third in scoring on the team, averaging 13 points per game
