DECORAH, Iowa (Duhawks.com) - The Loras men's basketball team stole a road win on Saturday against Luther, 86-72. Sophomore
Ryan DiCanio led the Duhawks with 27 points as the Bartlett, Ill. native knocked down 6-of-7 shots from distance.
MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
First Half
- Freshman Matt Dacy-Seijo hit an early shot from downtown for Loras' first lead of the night at 5-3.Â
- Sophomore Josh Ruggles regained the lead for the Duhawks with a 3-pointer with 15:04 to play in the half.
- Within a span of 70 seconds, DiCanio drained a trio of 3-pointers, resulting in a 9-0 run and a five-point lead for the Duhawks at 28-23.
- With under three minutes remaining in the half, sophomore Demond George sunk a 3-pointer for a 10-point lead before Loras took a 44-39 lead into the locker room.
Second Half
- Luther started the half off strong with a 10-3 run to take a one-point lead at 49-47.Â
- A 3-point play from Ruggles after an and-1 gave Loras the lead at 50-49 with 15 minutes remaining in regulation.Â
- Loras saw another run from DiCanio from three as the sophomore hit two-straight three balls to build a 65-61 lead.Â
- Ruggles made another big play for the Duhawks as the sophomore found senior Danny Quinn who laced in a shot off the glass to push Loras' lead to seven at 71-64 with 5:54 to play.
- George and Ruggles combined to hit three-straight free-throws to pair with a 3-pointer from Ruggles to increase the Duhawks' lead to 15 with less than three minutes remaining in regulation.
- The Norse could only muster four points in the final two minutes, resulting in an 86-72 win for the Purple & Gold.
