Men’s Volleyball Bested by MSOE

DUBUQUE, Iowa (Duhawks.com) - Less than 24 hours after defeating Benedictine in five on Friday, the Loras men's volleyball team returned to Lillis Court on Saturday. The Duhawks were unable to replicate their Friday success, falling in three to MSOE (25-13, 29-27, 25-17). Sophomore Alfredo Lopez led the Loras offense with six kills, 10 assists and two service aces while junior Dylan Ross recorded 10 digs in the effort.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Set One
  • With both teams deadlocked at 4-all early in set one, the Raiders used a five-point run to take control of the frame, prompting a timeout from head coach Jeremy Thornburg.
  • MSOE continued to extend this lead to the conclusion of set one, using six service aces to down the Duhawks in the frame, 25-13.

Set Two
  • Clinging to a one-point lead advantage, Loras used a 4-1 run capped off by a service ace from freshman Joe Berka to take the first significant lead of set two, 16-12.
  • The Duhawks led 24-21 after a kill from sophomore Leo Peters, but the Raiders fended off three-straight set-points to tie the frame at 24-all.
  • Both sides went back-and-forth to begin "bonus volleyball", but MSOE benefited from back-to-back kills to eventually complete the comeback, 29-27.

Set Three
  • A Lopez kill tied the final set at 3-all, but the Raiders used a 6-1 run at this juncture to open a five-point lead.
  • Loras was unable to chip away at this deficit in the decisive frame and MSOE eventually finished the set, 25-17, securing the match victory in straight sets.

NOTABLES
  • Ross had his second consecutive match with double-digit digs, racking up 10 in three sets
  • The Duhawks fall to 4-5 and 2-4 in the MCVL Western Division and are currently in sixth place
