DUBUQUE, Iowa (Duhawks.com) - The Loras women's basketball team defeated Nebraska Wesleyan on Tuesday night with a final score of 79-61 to advance to the semifinals of the Iowa Conference Tournament. Senior
Lori Obendorf led the Duhawks with a career-high 31 points and became the 10th member of the 1,000-point club at Loras as a result. The Naperville, Ill. native added 15 rebounds and four blocks for her sixth double-double of the season.
MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
First Quarter
- The first five minutes of regulation saw back-and-forth action as the Duhawks and Prairie Wolves found themselves tied at 6-all with five minutes remaining in the period.
- An 8-2 Loras run, including six points from Obendorf, gave the Duhawks a 14-10 lead.
- Junior Lauren Stanich 3-pointer extended the Loras lead to five at 19-14 with 1:35 to go in the quarter.
Second Quarter
- The Duhawks were scoreless until the 7:11 mark after a pair of free-throws from junior Cyerra Hutchins, who drew a foul driving to the rack. She was good on both from the line and kickstarted an 11-0 run for Loras.
- Obendorf capped the extended run for the Duhawks with a 3-point play to open a 14-point lead with 5:24 remaining.
Third Quarter
- Obendorf got Loras started in the third quarter with four-straight made free-throws. The senior finished the night 9-of-11 from the line.
- With 6:17 left in the quarter, Obendorf tallied her 25th point of the evening with a layup off an assist from senior Terese McMahon. This kickstarted a 15-3 for Loras that carried over into the fourth quarter.
Fourth Quarter
- With 8:52 on the clock, Obendorf drove inside to float a bucket in off the glass for two points for the 1,000th and 1,001st points of her career.
- In the span of 2:30, the Duhawks went on a 9-0 run, with all points coming from the free-throw line by six different players, who made 9-of-10 during the stretch.
