MINNEAPOLIS (Duhawks.com) - The Loras softball team continued its dominating start to the season with a sweep of Minn.-Morris on Saturday, winning 10-9 in game one and 10-5 in game two. Leading the Duhawks was sophomore
Ashley Lentine, who was 7-for-9 with nine RBIs and two home runs.
MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
Game One
- Senior Dani Stromert and freshman McKenna Hawkins swiped a combined three bases in the first and were later brought into score on a two-RBI single by sophomore Lauren Fritz.
- Sophomores Megan Larson and Ashley Lentine recorded back-to-back home runs in the bottom of the second for a 5-0 lead.Â
- Minn.-Morris responded with two runs in the top of third after capitalizing on a Loras error and two Cougar base hits.Â
- In the bottom of the fourth, Loras strung together four straight hits, plating three runs in the process from a trio of juniors in Regan Wolverton, Bria Lenten and Savannah Fowler.Â
- Trailing 8-2, Minn.-Morris came alive in the fifth and sixth innings at the plate, scoring seven runs to tie the game at 9-all.
- Larson came to the plate in the bottom of the sixth and reached base on an infield hit. She later came around to score after a sacrifice fly by Stromert for the winning run.
Game Two
- After the Cougars jumped out to an early 1-0 lead, Fowler drew a walk and came in to score after a triple by Lentine.
- The Duhawks continued their third inning rally with a RBI double from Fritz plating both Stromert and Hawkins.Â
- In the bottom of the fifth, Minn.-Morris strung together three straight hits, including two doubles to retake the lead, 5-4. Â
- In the sixth, the Duhawks rattled off back-to-back hits by Wolverton and Lenten. After a walk to Fowler, Lentine smacked a single to right field to score Wolverton from third and tie the gave at 5-all.
- Larson's single to center field put Loras in front by two, scoring Fowler and Lentine.
- A 3-run blast to left center by Lentine delivered the knockout punch for the Duhawks in the top of the seventh.
