WAVERLY, Iowa (Duhawks.com) - Loras was unable to avoid the series sweep on Sunday, dropping both games to Wartburg by scores of 10-0 and 10-7. Sophomore
Austin Konagel connected for his first career home run in game three of the weekend.
MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
Game One
- Wartburg jumped out to a 3-0 lead on three hits and a Loras fielding error in the top of the first.Â
- The Knights tacked on one more in the top of the third by means of a ground out.Â
- With a man on second and two outs, four consecutive hits by Wartburg opened a 7-0 lead.
- A solo home run and a two-RBI double Cody Hyler pushed the Knight lead to 10-0 heading into the bottom of the seventh.Â
- Wartburg shut down the Loras offense in the next half inning, ending the game by mercy rule.Â
Game Two
- Wartburg picked up where they left off in game one and jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top half of the first.
- The Duhawks responded with a run of their own in the bottom half of the inning when sophomore Jake Oglesby singled up the middle, driving in senior Luke Leibforth who led off the inning with a single.
- The Knights tacked on four runs over the next two innings, resulting in a 6-1 lead.
- Following two straight singles from senior Nolan Ritter and Leibforth, senior Tony Heiser singled up the middle, knocking in Ritter and cut the Wartburg lead to four.
- Loras put up a four spot in the bottom half of the sixth, highlighted by sophomore Austin Konagel's two-run home run and Heiser's two-RBI double to tie the game at 6-all.
- After a solo home run by the Knights in the seventh, the Duhawks fought back once again to tie the game as Oglesby scored on a fielder's choice, tying the game once again.
- The Knights regained the lead in the eighth, scoring twice, before adding an insurance run in the ninth, on their way to the 10-7 win.

- Konagel hit his first home run of his collegiate career to spark the Loras offense in the sixth inning
- The Duhawks fall to 2-4 in the Iowa Conference and 8-11 overall
- Loras is now 0-7 in their last seven games in Waverly
