Clutch Hitting Sinks Duhawks

DUBUQUE, Iowa (Duhawks.com) - The Loras baseball team dropped the first of a three-game set to Central 4-1, dropping to 11-17 overall and 4-9 in conference play. Senior Luke Leibforth crafted a perfect day at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base.

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
  • The Dutch opened the ballgame in the top of the first, driving the first pitch of the game down the left field line for a double. Junior Brad Schwind hunkered down and retired the next three hitters in order to end the early threat.
  • Senior Tony Heiser's one-out single proved to be the lone run of the game for the Duhawks after Heiser came around to score on a passed ball.
  • Senior Luke Leibforth walked and then reached third on a stolen base and wild pitch in the bottom of the fourth, but with two outs the Duhawks were unable to bring him home.
  • Central took a 2-1 lead in the top of the fifth by way of two triples and a single through the left side.
  • With a man on first and two outs in the top of the eighth, Michael Reuter hit a two run home run to left field to extend the Dutch lead to 4-1.
  • Sophomore Danny Paluch motored around the bases after a failed pickoff attempt with one out in the eighth. Loras was unable to cut into Central's lead and left Paluch stranded at third.

NOTABLES
  • Leibforth picked up his third three-hit game of the season, adding to his total of 11 multi-hit games on the season and extended his hitting streak to nine games
  • Duhawks fall to 0-3 at Petrakis Park on the year
  • Loras now 3-2 in their last five games against the Dutch dating back to 2016
  • Senior Kyle Jagminas made his fourth career relief appearance and his first two career strikeouts

FRIEDMAN GROUP PLAYER OF THE GAME
