MONMOUTH, Ill. (Duhawks.com) - After an extended break from game action, the Loras women's lacrosse team showed little signs of struggle in a 20-12 win over Monmouth on Saturday. Junior
Sarah Hanson scored a career-high seven goals to lead the offensive effort, adding an assist for eight points.
MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
First Half
- Trailing 2-1 early, freshman Olivia Flynn went on a tear, scoring three consecutive goals to put her side in front, 4-2.
- After a Monmouth goal, the Duhawks scored four straight of their own, two of which came from the stick of sophomore Nia Stompanato, resulting in an 8-3 lead with six minutes remaining in the opening half.Â
- Loras closed the opening frame with back-to-back goals by Flynn and senior Brittany Miller to take a 10-4 lead into the break.
Second Half
- Hanson and senior Anna Schwable extended the Duhawks' lead to eight less than two minutes in the second half.
- The Duhawks and Monmouth exchanged goals three times within a 15 minute window in the second half to keep the spread at seven in favor of Loras.Â
- Goals from senior Hannah Nelson and sophomore Molly Dougherty brought the Duhawks' lead back to nine at 17-8 with less than 10 minutes remaining on the clock.Â
- Despite four Monmouth goals in the last eight minutes of regulation, Loras maintained a strong lead thanks to three goals from Sarah Hanson, two of which came with less than a minute remaining in the game.Â
