DUBUQUE, IOWA (Duhawks.com) - The Loras baseball team (14-25, 7-17 IIAC) dropped the final series of the 2017 season by falling in both games of the doubleheader Saturday by scores of 7-6 and 8-3. Senior
Nolan Ritter recorded his 100th career hit in his final game in the Purple & Gold.
MOMENTS THAT MATTEREDÂ
Game OneÂ
- The Norse come out firing on offense in the first inning, scoring two runs on four hits to take the early lead.
- The Duhawks got their offense going in the second inning, scoring four runs on four hits, highlighted by two-out RBI doubles by junior Danny Weis and senior Luke Leibforth.Â
- Luthe loaded the bases in the next half inning before Mitch Bruggers hit a three-RBI double to right center, giving Luther the lead back at 5-4.Â
- Loras strung together three singles in the bottom of the third for Weis who worked a walk to knot the game at five.Â
- Junior Patrick Moriarty came on in relief in the fourth inning and pitched four scoreless innings while allowing five hits and striking out six.Â
- Luther collected two runs on two hits in the top of the eighth for the 7-5 lead.Â
- In the next half inning, sophomore Jake Oglesby roped an RBI double down the right field line to plate Weis and cut the Luther lead in half.Â
- After junior Tyler Tomaka set Luther down in order in the ninth, the Duhawks stranded the tying run on second to take the loss, 7-6.Â
Game TwoÂ
- Luther opened the scoring in the first inning for the second consecutive game by way of an RBI single to right field by Bryce Hingst.Â
- The Norse doubled their lead in the second after three consecutive two-out singles.
- Junior Ryan Koester led off the bottom of the second with a single and reached third on a wild pitch before Johnson grounded out to allow him to reach home safely.Â
- Luther capitalized on a Loras fielding error that allowed two runs to come around and score to extend their lead to 4-1.
- Ritter registered his 100th career hit in the bottom of the third and it came as an RBI single to right field that plated sophomore Austin Konagel, cutting the Norse lead to 4-2.Â
- Hingst led off the top of the fifth with a double to right center ahead of reaching third on a passed ball and home on a sacrifice fly pushing the Luther lead to 5-2.Â
- Luther strung together three consecutive hits in the top of the sixth with the last one being a two-RBI double to right center by Jon Opdahl that gave his team the 7-2 lead.Â
- With a runner on third in the top of the seventh, a Loras wild pitch allowed that runner to come home and score for an 8-2 Norse lead.Â
- Konagel led off the eighth inning with a triple to right center and later scored on a RBI ground out by Ritter.
- The Duhawks were set down in order in the ninth, sealing the 8-3 win for Luther.

FRIEDMAN GROUP PLAYER OF THE GAMEÂ
Patrick Moriarty I The Chicago, Ill. native pitched four scoreless innings in relief in game one, finishing with six strikeouts and one walk. Moriarty slowed down the Norse offense and gave his team chances to take the lead.Â
Nolan Ritter I The shortstop collected his 100th career hit in his final game in the Purple & Gold to go along with two RBIs. Ritter also played solid defense, completing game two with seven assists.
