Duhawks Downed by Dutch in IIAC Semifinals

DECORAH, Iowa (Duhawks.com) - The Loras softball team fell on Saturday in the Iowa Conference semifinals to Central, 8-0. Sophomore Megan Larson paced the Duhawk offense, going 2-for-3 at the plate with two base hits.

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
  • Freshman Emily Reilly worked her way out of a jam after a lead off double and sacrifice hit moved Dutch base runner to third base with one out. The Oak Lawn, Ill. native earned two straight pop ups to end the second inning and hold Central off the scoreboard.
  • In the top of the fourth, Loras moved two runners into scoring position after a pair of walks. The Duhawks failed to plate any runs in the frame as the Dutch struck out two Loras batters in-a-row to end the visitor half of the inning.
  • Central got on the scoreboard first as the Dutch strung together three base hits and three stolen bases in the bottom of the fourth for a four-run lead.
  • During the home half of the fifth, Central added a run to the board but Loras minimized the damage as junior Emma Corkill forced two straight ground outs to strand two on base.
  • Three runs for the Dutch in the bottom of the sixth sealed the mercy-rule victory.

  • Larson recorded her 20th multiple-hit game of the season on Saturday
  • The Duhawks finish the season with the most wins in a single season since 1998
  • Loras finishes the season second in the Iowa Conference with a .338 team batting average
