Women's Soccer Comes From Behind to Top Knox

GALESBURG, Ill. (Duhawks.com) - A pair of unanswered goals fueled the comeback bid for the Loras women's soccer team on Thursday night, as the Duhawks topped Knox, 2-1. Senior Gretchen Schutz recorded her second game-winning goal, delivering home the winner from 20 yards out for her fifth goal of the season.

STARTING XI – LORAS
0 - Coble / 4 - Schutz / 9 - Wright
10 - Mills / 14 - O'Neill / 18 - Stanfa
19 - Anderson / 21 - Bolnius / 23 - Walsh
24 - O'Neill / 28 - Brant

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
-Loras withstood a barrage to begin the second half in which Knox recorded five shots, including one off the post and another that sophomore Kaylee Coble tipped over the crossbar
-Once the dust settled, the Duhawks found their groove and began to reassert their control in the midfield, which eventually led to Schutz' goal in the 75th minute
-After the goal, the Prairie Fire upped their forward pressure but it resulted in no additional shots or challenges on Coble

NOTABLES
-Loras improved to 1-0-0 all-time against Knox
-Schutz ran her season point total to 13 and recorded her second-game-winner of the season ... The senior now has 14 career goals and 34 points
-Reiging IIAC Offensive MVP, junior Elizabeth Mills added her second helper of the season and 11th in her career

FRIEDMAN GROUP PLAYER OF THE GAME – MOLLY STANFA
The Geneva prep was a staple in the midfield today for head coach Matt Pucci and directed her lone shot on target ... Her defensive play down the stretch helped keep Knox at bay and preserve the 2-1 win

UP NEXT
Loras returns to the Rock Bowl for a non-conference tilt against Augustana next Tuesday. The Vikings are 2-2 this season and coming off back-to-back losses to Thomas More and Hanover. Augustana is set to square off against UW-La Crosse on Saturday before traveling to the Key City for a 5 p.m. kickoff.
