Duhawks Drop Two on Second Day of Alvernia Quad

READING, Pa. (Duhawks.com) - The Loras men's volleyball team suffered it's first loss of the season on Saturday in a four set fall to Rutgers-Newark before being swept by No. 15 Vassar. Junior Jake Chudzik led the Duhawks with a combined 16 kills in two matches.

- Saturday marked the first time these programs have met, Scarlet Raiders now lead the series all-time, 1-0

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
Set One
- A kill from senior Dylan Ross and a Rutgers-Newark service error pulled the Duhawks within five at 15-10
- Attacking errors plagued Loras in the first set as a Scarlet Raider block gave the Duhawks their first set loss of the season, 25-17

Set Two
- Junior Austin Kuchenbecker put down a kill followed by a Rutgers-Newark serving error handed Loras a 4-3 lead
- Another Kuchenbecker kill began a 4-0 Duhawk run for a 16-15 lead
- Despite an ace from sophomore Ian Walsh to bring Loras up 21-20, 

Set Three
- Two kills in three points from junior Jake Chudzik gave the Duhawks a 13-10 lead
- Chudzik put down his fifth kill of the set for a 24-19 lead, followed by a Scarlet Raider error gave Loras a set 3 win

Set Four
- A block from Kuchenbecker and junior Alfredo Lopez set Loras up 5-2 
- A service error from the Duhawks  ended the match and handed Loras their first loss of the season

INDIVIDUAL NOTABLES
- Kuchenbecker and Chudzik led the team with 11 kills apiece, five of which for Chudzik came in Loras' third set win … Both Kuchenbecker and Chudzik set career-highs for kills

- The Muskego, Wis. native tallied 11 kills for the Duhakws while attacking at a .250 percentage ... Kuchenbecker also added three blocks and two digs in Loras' loss

Set One
- A kill from senior Greg Kinney ended a 4-0 Vassar run, cutting the Brewers lead to eight
- Four Duhawk attacking errors ended the first set, as Vassar took the win, 25-10

Set Two
- A block from Kuchenbecker and a kill from Chudzik put Loras up 8-6
- Despite the Duhawks ability to bounce back in the second set a Brewer 4-0 run ended the set as Vassar claimed a 25-17 victory

Set Three
- Kills from Ross and junior Leo Peters pulled Loras within two as the Brewers held a 15-12 lead
- After a block from Peters and senior Aaron Miller cut Vassar's lead to 24-17, the Brewers forced a Duhawk attacking error to seal the three-set win

INDIVIDUAL NOTABLES
- Anderson moved past 400 career digs and now stands at 409
- In eight fewer matches played, Chudzik surpassed his kill total from his freshman season and now has 42

FRIEDMAN GROUP PLAYER OF THE GAME - Alfredo Lopez
The Naranjito, P.R. native led the Duhawks offense, recording 16 of Loras' 20 assists while adding three digs

TEAM NOTABLES
- Loras recorded its two lowest attacking percentages of the season at .100 and .026 on Saturday
- Vassar was the first team to hit above .160 against the Duhawks this season (.323)
- Loras struggled with the block on offense, with Rutgers-Camden and Vassar combining for six solo blocks and 26 block assists
