Football's Comeback Bid Falls Short at Simpson

Box Score

INDIANOLA, Iowa (Duhawks.com) - The Loras football team battled the elements on Saturday afternoon and narrowly missed out on a second half, double-digit comeback against Simpson. Sam Maloney hauled in five catches for 105 yards and two touchdowns to lead the effort.

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
• The opening quarter was a frantic frenzy, with both teams combining for 27 points, including 13 unanswered by the Duhawks
• Simpson extended its lead to 22 at 35-13 before Noah Sigwarth found Brad Boelkow with a 29-yard touchdown pass prior to the third quarter ending
• Boelkow's touchdown catch gave the Duhawks the spark they needed and carried the momentum over into the fourth quarter
• After a field goal by the Storm, Sigwarth connected with Maloney for the second time in the game, 1:03 after Simpson had kicked a field goal
• On the next drive for the Storm, Loras' special teams came up with the big play, blocking the punt combined with Zach Kemp picking up the pigskin and running it into the end zone for six points
• With time winding down, the Duhawks forced a punt by Simpson and marched down the field ... On the ninth play of the drive from the Storm 33-yard line, Sigwarth was pressured in the pocket and threw up a pass that was intercepted at the 11-yard line

NOTABLES
• Walker Even and Brenton Chumbler each finished with a career-high in tackles, with Even totaling 14 and Chumbler with 11
