Women's Basketball Upsets No. 21 Warhawks

WHITEWATER, Wis. (Duhawks.com) - The Loras women's basketball team quickly put its season-opening loss behind them, responding with an 77-73 win over No. 21 UW-Whitewater on Monday night. In 31 minutes, Marissa Schroeder posted a career-high 25 points to lead the Duhawks.
 
MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
• After a slow start in the first, Loras opened up the second quarter with a 9-3 run forcing Whitewater to take an early timeout
• Schroeder and Riley Eckhart combined for 20 of the 28 Duhawk second quarter points to take a 12-point lead into the half
• The Warhawks brought the intensity in the first half containing the Duhawks to four field goals in the quarter
• Loras struggled from the field in the fourth quarter as the UW-Whitewater defense held the Duhawks to one field goal
• With two seconds left and a facing three-point deficit, the Warhawks missed two of their three free-throw's sealing the Loras victory
 
NOTABLES
• Schroeder finished with a career high 25 points, which included 17 in the first half
• Macenzie Kraemer was 13-of-16 from the charity stripe, leading to a career-high 21 points
• Courtney Schnoor dominated the glass finishing with a game leading nine rebounds
• Loras' last win against a top-25 program came during the 2015-16 season, an 80-71 win over No. 8 WashU on New Year's Eve
• The Duhawks were clutch down the stretch, converting on 17-of-20 attempts at the free-throw line in the fourth quarter
• Loras recorded its first win against UW-Whitewater in program history on Tuesday

Loras returns home on Friday for the first game of the Loras Tip-Off Classic against Beloit. The Buccaneers lost their opener against Dominican, 62-52. Tip is scheduled for 2 p.m.
