Duhawks Plagued by Poor Shooting in Loss to Wheaton

DUBUQUE, Iowa (Duhawks.com) - Fresh off a pair of wins at the Loras Tip-Off Classic, the women's basketball team struggled out of the gates on Tuesday against Wheaton, eventually falling 67-59. As a team, the Duhawks finished 9-for-27 inside the paint and shot 29 percent from the floor.

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
• The Duhawks wasted no time making their first shot as Riley Eckhart scored a wide open layup four seconds after the jump ball off the Kari Fitzpatrick feed 
• Loras struggled from deep in the first quarter,missing all seven of their attempts
• As time expired in the second quarter, Taylor Brooks made one extra pass to find Eckhart in the corner for the Duhawks second triple of the evening
• After a tough firsthalf, Loras found their stroke from deep,hitting four 3-pointers to start the half, turning a seven-point Thunder lead into a two-point Duhawk lead
• The Thunder pushed their lead back to six at the end of three, Loras managed to cut the lead to four points several times but that was as close as they camethe rest of the game
• Down by seven with 1:18 remaining, Marissa Schroeder knocked down her free-throw for the 3-point play 
• The Thunder sealed the victory with a perfect 8-for-8 performance at the free-throw line in the final two minutes

• The Duhawks dominated the offensive glass haulingin 21 offensive rebounds … The Duhawks out-rebounded the Thunder 49-37
• Marissa Schroeder has led the Duhawks in scoring fourout of fivegames
• Fitzpatcik set a career-high with eight rebounds, as did Macenzie Kraemer who finished with six
• Both teams combined to shoot 85.7percentfrom the free-throw line
• Wheaton improves to 6-1 all-time against Loras
 
UP NEXT 
Following a quick break for Thanksgiving, the Duhawks return on Nov.28 in their first American Rivers Conference matchup of the season against Dubuque. The Spartans are 1-3 following an overtime loss at Carleton on Tuesday night. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. from inside the Stoltz Sports Center.
