Duhawks Drop First A-R-C Matchup With No. 17 Wartburg

DUBUQUE, Iowa (Duhawks.com) - The Loras women's basketball team faced a tall order on Wednesday night against No. 17 Wartburg. Riley Eckhardt led the Duhawks, scoring a career-best 22 points, including five 3-pointers.
 
MOMENTS THAT MATTERED

• Eckhardt opened the scoring for the Duhawks, knocking down a jump shot off the Hanna Stokes feed
• With just over three minutes remaining in the first quarter, Kari Fitzpatrick stole the Knights' pass and took it coast-to-coast for the 13-12 lead, which would be the last of lead Loras had the rest of the way
• Following Fitzpatrick's layup, Wartburg went on a 14-3 run to close out the quarter
• With 3:05 remaining in the third quarter, Eckhardt sunk her fourth triple of the game, cutting the Knight lead to 15
• The Duhawks managed to bring the Knights' lead to 11 but never under 10
 
NOTABLES
• Eckhardt added eight rebounds to her career-best scoring performance
• Loras out-rebounded the Knights 35-21, including 12 offensive rebounds
• The Knights forced 11 second-half turnovers while committing six
• Wartburg scored 46 of its 76 points in the paint
• After leading the Duhawks in scoring through their first six games with 16.8 points, Marissa Schroeder was held to two points on 1-of-5 shooting from the field.
 
UP NEXT
The Duhawks will head just across the border on Saturday for their third matchup against a WIAC opponent in UW-Platteville. The Pioneers are currently 4-3 and enter the weekend on a three-game winning streak. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
