DUBUQUE, Iowa (Duhawks.com) - The Loras men's volleyball team fell on Friday night against Illinois Tech in five, 23-25, 25-20, 20-25, 25-20, 15-13.
Joe Jendra finished with 16 kills while hitting .323 and added 20 assists.
MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
Set One
- The Duhawks raced out of the gates to a 12-6 lead before a 11-4 run by the Scarlet Hawks put them in the lead at 17-16
- Loras responded with a pair of kills coupled with a block and a service ace to regain the lead at 20-17
- Leading 23-19, the Duhawks conceded four consecutive points to Illinois Tech before Jendra blasted away back-to-back kills to close set one, 25-23
Set Two
- Leading 18-14, the Scarlet Hawks scored six of the next eight points to erase the Loras lead and level the set at 20-all
- Jendra's kill made it 21-20 Duhawks, but Illinois Tech rallied back to score the next three points and tie the match at one
Set Three
- Once again, the Duhawks clicked from the opening whistle and opened a 7-2 advantage
- Both sides traded four-point runs which ended with Loras in front 14-6
- Leading 20-18, the Duhawks benefited from three consecutive errors by the Scarlet Hawks
- A service error by Illinois Tech at set point handed the Duhawks the win, 25-20, and a 2-1 advantage in the set
Set Four
- With the Scarlet Hawks leading 16-15, a quick run of four straight points opened a lead that Loras was unable to erase
- The Duhawks came back as close as three at 21-18, but Illinois Tech closed out the fourth set, 25-20, to force a fifth
Set Five
- Once again, the Scarlet Hawks used their serving to shift the momentum, turning a 6-4 deficit into a 9-6 lead
- Loras managed to find even ground at 12-all but Illinois Tech benefited from a service error and two kills to win the fifth, 15-13
