Baseball Slugs Past Cornell

DUBUQUE, Iowa (Duhawks.com) - In a meeting of former Iowa Conference foes, the Loras baseball team pounded nine extra-base hits on Thursday night for its 13th win of the season, defeating Cornell, 7-2. As a team, the Duhawks recorded a .735 slugging percentage, totaling six doubles and three triples.

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
- Reeling off their comeback win on Wednesday night, the Rams jumped on the board early, scoring twice in the top of the first
- Ryan Koester started the second with a double to the wall on the first pitch he saw, which helped kickstart a three-run inning that put the Duhawks in front for good
- Danny Weis led off the third with a stand-up triple and scored on Koester's sacrifice fly
- In the bottom of the sixth, both Richard Bryza and Thomas Greffly jumped on the first pitch they saw, with Bryza singling and Greffly scorching a triple down the first base line
- Erik Edminster earned his first career win in relief, throwing 3.2 innings without allowing a base hit

NOTABLES
- Three of Cornell's four hits came in the first inning ... Beginning in the second inning and continuing to the eighth, Loras retired 17 consecutive Ram hitters
- Wednesday marked the second time this season that Greffly recorded three RBIs
