Duhawks Strike for 19 to Defeat Monmouth

DUBUQUE, Ill. (Duhawks.com) - The Loras women's lacrosse team moved back into the win column on Wednesday night with a 19-13 decision against Monmouth in league action. Renata Veljacic led the Duhawks with four goals and one assist in the winning effort.

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
- The Duhawks rattled off the first three goals of the game from Flynn and two by Veljacic to take an early lead with 26:26 remaining in the half
- Shortly after, Monmouth brought the match back to within one, scoring three of the next four goals
- Before the half ended, the Duhawks scored seven of the final 10 goals, which included two separate runs of three consecutive goals, good for an 11-6 lead
- Loras scored five goals in under six minutes midway through the second half to give them the largest lead of the game of 16-8
- After scoring the first goal of the second half, the Fighting Scots had their last burst of energy with 9:57 remaining, which resulted in three goals inside a two-minute window

NOTABLES
- Dangoy recorded her first career hat-trick on Thursday, scoring two of her three goals on free-position attempts
- Stompanato also tallied her first career hat-trick against Monmouth, bringing her season goal total to 12
- Kulas tied a career-high with five caused turnovers
- Veljacic contributed in multiple areas on Thursday, scoring five goals while adding two assists for a career-high seven points … Her five caused turnovers are tied for fifth all-time in school history
- Flynn matched her point total from her freshman season of 47 … With six more points, Flynn would become the third player in program history with 100 points

- Veljacic was a force to be reckoned with on Thursday, recording a statistic in each of the major eight categories … In addition to her five goals, she added six ground balls, five caused turnovers and four draw controls.

UP NEXT
Loras travels to Aurora, Ill. for the final game of the season on Saturday, April 28.  The Spartans enter with a 9-7 overall record and is 6-4 in MWLC play. First draw is set for 12:00 p.m.
