DUBUQUE, Iowa (Duhawks.com) - The Loras women's volleyball team overcame a slow start on Friday to force a fifth set, but Luther prevailed in the end, winning 15-9.
Jenna LaCorte had a career night for the Duhawks, putting away 23 kills while hitting .319.
MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
• Luther's 8-0 run in the middle of the opening set was cut short by a kill from
Kayla Kinney ... With the Norse leading 21-15 at the time, the Duhawks battled back to level at 21-all before falling 25-21
• The Duhawks went on a 4-0 run early in the second set after a few great serves from
Krystal Tranel ... Late in the second set a 4-0 run from Luther forced a Loras timeout ... Following the timeout, a kill by
Michelle Budden kept the Duhawks alive in the set pushing the score to 24-23 but a late push by the Norse ended in favor of the visitors, 25-23
• Loras found their footing in the third set starting it off with a 3-0 run ... Tied at 16-all, it was a battle to the end with the Duhawks taking the third set, 26-24
• Leading 16-11 in the fourth set, a kill from
Michelle Budden forced a Luther timeout ... The Norse battled back to 19-all, but the Duhawks finished strong taking the fourth set 25-19
• In the finale, Luther held a slim lead at 9-7 before closing on a 6-2 run to win, 15-9
