Duhawks Ravage Kohawks

DUBUQUE, Iowa (Duhawks.com) - The Loras women's basketball team continued their hot start to the new year with their eighth straight win in a 79-47 throttling of the Coe College Kohawks. After going down with an ankle injury earlier in the season, Marissa Schroeder found her groove again scoring a game high 21 points while bringing in 10 rebounds.

Marissa Schroeder found her her confidence early scoring 11 of Loras' 14 first quarter points
The Duhawks upped the defensive intensity in the second quarter holding the Kohawks to nine points on 4-16 shooting from the field.
On the back of Jaime Ryan's three-pointer, the Duhawks closed out the first half with a 13-2 run extending their lead to 20-points at the break
Loras picked up right where they left off opening the second half with a 12-2 run and extending their lead to 30+ points for the first time
With 1:15 to play Taylor Brooks found Ryleigh O'Brien slashing through the lane for her first two points of the game to give Loras a 34-point lead, their largest of the game. 
The Duhawks dominated down low scoring 34 points in the paint while holding the Kohawks to 16
Loras closed out the win by holding Coe to 12 fourth quarter points on 4-14 shooting from the field and 1-7 from deep

The Duhawks did not allow a single Kohawk scorer to reach double-digits
Marissa Schroeder scored 20+ points for the fourth time this season
Loras out-rebounded Coe 43-33
47 is the second fewest points the Duhawks have allowed this season.

Loras will continue with conference play on Wednesday when they travel to Decorah, Iowa to face the Luther Norse. The Norse are currently 6-7 overall but carry a 5-1 conference record after defeating  Central 66-40. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 PM
