DECORAH, Iowa (Duhawks.com) - Behind
Kendra Cave's 13 kills, Loras swept Luther College 25-21, 25-20, 26-24, Friday, to move to 2-0 in the American Rivers Conference (A-R-C). Loras (15-5, 2-0 A-R-C) won its fifteenth match of the season against Luther (4-14, 1-3 A-R-C).
A late spark propelled the Duhawks to a 25-21 win in the opening set. Loras battled back scoring six points in a row to bring it even at 21-21. The Duhawks advanced their six point run to a 10 point run to claim the first set.
Luther led for much of the second set until the Duhawks halted the Norses' lead at 17-16. Loras took the lead 19-17 to force a timeout from the Norse. Through the second set, Cave led the Duhawks in kills with seven,
Kayla Kinney and
Kelly Boge totaled five kills through the set. A block from Boge pushed the Duhawks lead to 21-18. Loras forced a Norse timeout after extending the lead to 22-18. Loras had their largest lead of the match at 23-18 before closing the set 25-20. The Duhawks score 8 of final 11 points to take the second set.
Two errors and a service ace from
Krystal Tranel forced a Norse timeout in the third set as Loras trailed 17-16. Tranel second straight ace serve brought it even at 17-17. A Norse rotation violation gave the Duhawks a point to push the score to 18-18. A service error and attacking error forced a timeout from Luther as the score was tied at 21-21. Cave tallied her thirteenth kill to put the Duhawks up 24-23. Loras claimed the third and final set 26-24.
Loras will return to action on Friday, Oct. 11 as they travel to Storm Lake, Iowa to face Buena Vista for more A-R-C action. First serve is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
