Brice Everson
Bout 126 | vs. Bobby Jordan (JWU)
• Jordan chose bottom in the 2nd after a scoreless first and turned that into a reversal to take the lead
• Everson bounced back with a reversal of his own, but less than 30 seconds later, conceded one himself
• Jordan locked up riding time to put himself ahead 5-2, so even with Everson's second reversal of the period, it wasn't enough to flip the script
• Everson's season comes to an end at 16-6
141# | (4) Clint Lembeck
Bout 170 | vs. (5) Brendan Ladd (Alma)
• Ladd struck first with a takedown right before the buzzer at the end of the first
• Like Lembeck's first match against Evan Drill, Ladd continued to get in on shots, but it was Lembeck's defense that kept matters from getting out of hand
• Trailing 3-2 with less than 30 seconds to go in the third, Lembeck hit a takedown and put Ladd to his back for the four-count, taking the win by decision, 8-3
149# | Kevin Kelly
Bout 135 | vs. Luke Hernandez (Mount Union)
• Kelly looked to be in great position to extend his national tournament, conceding only an escape through two periods
• The senior only needed nine seconds to get his own escape to start the third
• Inside of a minute in the third period, Hernandez regained the lead with a takedown and forced Kelly into dire straits
• A last-ditch effort by Kelly for a throw came up unsuccessful as his career came to an end
• Kelly ended the season with a 30-7 record
157# | (5) Brandon Murray
Bout 178 | vs. (4) Antwon Pugh (Mount Union)
• Murray saw his hopes of a national title this year dashed in a 5-1 decision to Antwon Pugh, the No. 4 seed from Mount Union
• The difference came 30 seconds into the second period when Pugh caught Murray in a roll and exposed him for four points
165# | (5) Eddie Smith
Bout 182 | vs. (4) Kyle Hatch (Wabash)
• For two periods, both Smith and Hatch were held in modest fashion, setting the table for an exciting finish
• Forty seconds into the final period, Hatch scored a takedown to take the 2-0 lead
• Even with a penalty point and an escape, Smith came up one point short, falling 3-2
Bout 223 | vs. (3) Nick Racanelli (Wilkes)
• Needing a win to continue his season, Smith made sure to score first in his consolation second round bout
• His first period takedown proved to be the difference for Smith as Racanelli was unable to score anything in addition to his escape in the second period
174# | Jacob Krakow
Bout 148 | vs. Colin Kowalski (Gettysburg)
• Kowalski suffered an injury prior to nationals and was not able to go in the consolation match, with Krakow advancing via medical forfeit
Bout 228 | vs. Jake Voss (Coe)
• In a rematch from the regional semifinal two weeks ago, Krakow knew he couldn't afford a similar result, which meant he needed to get to his offense first
• The plan was executed to perfection as Krakow jumped out to a 4-1 lead with two takedowns
• Voss' escape in the first would be the only points he could manage, as Krakow secured the win and his All-American status with a takedown and riding time point in the third period
197# | (2) Guy Patron Jr.
Bout 196 | vs. (7) Taylor Mehmen (Coe)
• The man from the Bayou joined an exclusive club on Friday night, as only the third wrestler in program history to be a three-time All-American ... Prior to Patron Jr., Rob Murray and Craig Collins were three-time All-Americans in 1999, 2000 and 2001
• Having won the previous two meetings against Mehmen this season, Friday's quarterfinal match followed a different script with Mehmen getting on the offensive from the opening whistle
• A scoreless first period featured multiple shots from both wrestlers, with neither able to break the deadlock
• After an escape, Patron Jr. quickly found his offense with a takedown 10 seconds later, to which he added an additional four back points
• Mehmen got himself on the board with a reversal to make it 7-2 going to the third
• Patron Jr. put the icing on the King Cake with a late takedown, sealing his third All-American honor in as many seasons
