DUBUQUE, Iowa - The Loras College men's wrestling team put together a strong, bonus-point-filled performance on Thursday night, powering past Cornell College for a 27-14 dual victory.
The dual opened at 125 lbs, where
Aidan Gruenenfelder set the tone with a hard-fought 6-4 decision to give Loras an early lead. Cornell responded with back-to-back close wins at 133 and 141 lbs, edging the Duhawks in one-point and three-point decisions to move ahead 6-3.
Loras quickly regained control in the middle weights. At 149 lbs,
Chase Fiser delivered a commanding 21-5 tech fall, followed by
Eric Kinkaid, who rolled to a 17-0 tech fall at 157 lbs to push the Duhawks back in front.
Cornell briefly tightened the score at 165 lbs with a major decision, but Loras answered immediately and decisively.
At 174 lbs,
Dustin Bohren electrified the crowd with a fall in just 1:05, swinging the momentum firmly in Loras' favor.
Landry Barker kept the pressure on at 184 lbs, earning a dominant 16-4 major decision to extend the lead.
Cornell grabbed one final victory at 197 lbs, but heavyweight
Jonah Clark sealed the dual with another Loras bonus-point win, a 15-4 major decision that closed out the night and secured the 27-14 team victory.
