Loras Falls to Cornell

DUBUQUE, Iowa (Duhawks.com) - The Duhawks women's softball team faced non-conference opponent Cornell in a double-header on Wednesday, April 3. Loras fought hard but fell in both games 7-3, and 10-4. 



Game 1: Cornell 7, Loras 3

• Loras held Cornell scoreless until the third inning when the rams fed off of momentum to jump out to a 3-0 lead. 
• The rams tallied another run in the fourth inning to push their lead to 4. 
• The Duhawks answered in the fifth inning when Madison Franks single to left field batted in Haddie Anderson. Jade Besler and Noely Baumann scored on an error by the third baseman to cut the Rams lead to just one. 
• Cornell scored three runs in the sixth inning to take the first game 7-3. 

Game 2: Cornell 10, Loras 4
• The rams struck first in the second inning off of a wild pitch to go ahead by one.
• Loras equalized in the third thanks to Shannon Coyle double to bat in Ashley Lentine
The Duhawks fought in the fourth and fifth innings holding the Rams but couldn't get on the board.
• Cornell broke the tie in the sixth inning to take the lead 2-1.
• The Duhawks answered with a run of their own in the sixth when Lauren Fritz hit a double to right center field to bring in Hannah Wubben.
• Cornell pulled away at the top of the seventh tallying four runs to go up 10-2.
• Loras didnt give up and was able to grab two runs at the bottom of the seventh but eventually fell 10-4.
