The Duhawks took the lead in the first quarter with five straight points from
Courtney Schnoor giving Loras a spark coming off a bye on Wednesday night. The Duhawks secured their largest lead of the quarter with a jumper by
Marissa Schroeder making the score 20-10 with 2:57 left. However, the Spartans did not waver going on a nine-point run cutting the Duhawks lead to just one at the end of the first quarter.
At the beginning of the second quarter the Duhawks lost their lead for the first time during the game with 7:36 left but regained their lead in less than a minute making the score 31-30. Schnoor was the spark for Loras all game long scoring eight of her 20 points in the second quarter giving the Duhawks the spark they needed to head into halftime up two against their cross-town rival.
The Duhawks came out firing with a huge three-point basket from Schroeder giving Loras the energy they needed coming out of halftime. The third quarter was big for the Duhawks outscoring the Spartans 20-11 allowing them to gain their largest lead of the game at eleven points making the score 60-49 at the end of the quarter.
Entering the fourth quarter with their largest lead of the game the Duhawks were not satisfied and kept the pressure on the Spartans with a big layup from
Kari Fitzpatrick extending their lead to 19 points with 4:07 left in the game. However, the Spartans kept fighting cutting the lead to just nine points with 1:29 remaining in the game but
Riley Eckhart and the rest of the Duhawks defense put an end to the Spartans run and finished the game with a win on senior night with a final score of 79-73.
Schnoor finished the game as the teams leading scorer with 20 points while Schroeder added 17 of her own making her only 36 points shy from the 1,000-point mark.
Macenzie Kraemer and Fitzpatrick both finished with 9 points.
Loras travels to Cedar Rapids, Iowa where they will face off against American Rivers Conference opponent Coe College on Wednesday January 22, 2020 at 5:30 PM.
