Jan. 4, 2020 – The No. 2 Loras College wrestling team opened the new decade at home, hosting the Flash Flanagan Open on Saturday and gave many of its grapplers an opportunity to showcase their skills in front of a home crowd.
The Duhawks saw three wrestlers claim first place finishes as
Zach Licht won the 133 lb. weight class and
Kirk Mommsen was victorious at 174 pounds, defeating Iowa State University's Austin Stotts, 6-0.
Slade Sifuentes was the winner at heavy weight while teammates
Brody Tupy and
Dakoda Powell placed third and fifth, respectively in the same weight class.
Stevie Lee earned third place at 149 lbs., winning his match by fall over Jaivon Jones from NIU and
Peyton Bass ended the day with a third place finish at 125 lbs. after he took Iowa State's Caleb Fuessley to two sudden victory periods before facing off against teammate
Duncan McCain who took second.
The Duhawks resume action at one of the biggest events of the season, traveling to Louisville, Kentucky for the 2020 NWCA Division III National Duals. Day 1 matches begin on Friday, Jan. 10.Â
